I am about to pay off a large car loan. How can I get additional financial benefits?

March 10th, 2010

Last April, I took my first loan ever to pay for an SUV. The inital amount was about k at 6.99%. As of today, I have paid it down to just over k.

As a present, my parents gave me k to pay off the loan (and I’ll be paying them back with little to no interest), so I can pay off the loan and still have enough money to feel comfortable.

But, is there any way I can "funnel" this k payment that I’m about to make through some payment channel so I can get additional benefits from it?

Specifically, I had hoped to use my Discover or Visa card to make the payment, so that I would get either cash back or flight credits.

However, the bank that holds my loan says I can only use credit cards to make loan payments via a cash advance, and neither of my cards will give me miles or cash back for a cash advance (or for credit checks either).

Does anyone know of a way I could make this work and get extra benefit from my payment (if not via credit cards, some other way)?

UK: My husband has had £400 taken out of his bank account! Will he get it back?

March 9th, 2010

No-one has had access to his card or PIN. In fact it is only a cash card, not visa or anything. We’re really worried! And the fraud helpline isn’t open ’til Monday Grrrr.

Anyone had this happen to them? How did the fraudsters do it? How long does it take for the bank to replace the money?

credit card question about cash backk… urgent!?

March 8th, 2010

im in need of 200$ cash asap, and my paycheck doesn’t come until friday..my debit account is nearly empty, and i have a visa.. i know i can withdraw money from an atm, but i believe that interest is applied to it right away, so thats not a good idea..

how about using "cash back" at a convenience store when imake a purchase? is there immediate interest applied on that or will it count as a regular purchase? (i’ve done it before with my debit card..)
