If I apply for VISA card and choose to buy something would they withdraw money form my bank account?

May 10th, 2009

Does anyone know if I apply for VISA card and choose to buy something would they withdraw money form my bank account?

Also would I have another account where I could put my cash money into my credit card?

Another question if like after 1-3 weeks of using my credit card to buy something would i be able to hand them in cash to pay back?

A VISA card is a credit card, so the money will not come out of your bank account unless you first authorize them to do so. Unless you are getting a debit card with the VISA logo, which means you can use it at places that accept credit cards, but not necessarily debit cards. Then yes it will come directly out of your account.

On your second question, you can pay for credit purchases from any bank account.

They should accept cash for payment on the credit card, but do it in person and don't send cash through the mail.

I have a Visa Debit card that takes my purchases directly from my checking account.
But I also have a Visa Credit card that is a charge card that must be paid each month.

I know of no way to pay your credit card in cash.

The best way to find out more is to ask your bank. They will be glad to explain the differences and help you select the best for your situation.

It depends on whether you are getting a Visa credit card or a Visa debit card. A debit card is linked to your bank account so when you buy something the money is taken out of your bank account. A credit card would sum the purchases over the month and send you a bill which you would then pay for by mailing a check/money order/cashier's check or pay online from your bank account. If you wanted to pay your credit card bill before they sent the bill you could log in online and pay it there.

If your Visa is a credit card, the charge won't come out of your bank account. If it's a debit/credit card and you use the card as a debit card, the money will come out of your bank account.

A credit card is for credit. It doesn't make sense to put your cash into your credit account unless you are making a payment. Put your cash into your bank account instead.

Credit card payments are usually not made in cash. Unless the credit card is from your local bank and they accept cash payments at the bank, you'll need to pay by check or money order. Don't send cash through the mail.
